Well, considering that it's a rather common design for a fantasy sword, I wouldn't think too much about it.

It's exactly the same silhouette, RedDog. Down to the little nobs on the wristguard.

Soooo. GW on xbox?

Or they just like the design

Or perhaps the designer of the Emerald Blade (it was from the last Design a Weapon Contest right?) found his inspiration elsewhere.

But it's an odd resemblance indeed.

I would find it quite funny if it turned out that whoever submitted the design for the emerald blade plagiarised it from another game or something. Nice job spotting it too.

A quick google search for "fantasy sword" reveals plenty of similar looking swords, some a lot more similar than others. I'll admit that the silhouette is nearly identical (a few proportions are a bit off), but I'm sure it just boils down to whoever was in charge of the picture really liked this particular design.

The pic is from the Microsoft E3 2011 invitation.. the real image is bit larger, with more info, e.g, the names BATMAN, MASTER CHIEF, MARCUS FENIX and CORTANA. And the phrases "you are the controller", "game over". You can find the pic by google'ing the text in bold.

Its new for what it matters.

Agreed, i've seen plenty of similar and probably a couple of identical swords to the Emerald Blade in various fantasy settings. I'd say it's much more likely the Microsoft artist and the DaW winner were working from similar references than the Microsoft artist was using GW as a reference.

It's possible that Microsoft have an announcement related to GW or GW2 at E3 but if it does it's going to include Games for Windows, which is the worst platform I have ever encountered and would be a really big negative for GW(2).

microsoft is buying anet and changing guild wars and guild wars 2 into games that are $20 a month or pay by the hour with microtransactions for every step your character takes.

I do think its a little more than generic sword design, maybe its actually whoever did taht image is secret GW fan or plagiarized it not thinking anyone would notice.

I don't see any plagiarizing, but I think it's obvious the submitter spent a lot of time looking at Marto brand swords...

I bet that is the most probable cause.

My guess is that the sword represents the game Dungeon Siege 3.

ANet didnt answered my tweet yet. I doubt they will.
